THE HINDU  SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT  VIJAYAWADA APRIL 01, 2017

Seek arrest of those who assaulted workers

Trade Unions, barring the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sabha (BMS) and Telugu Desam Trade Union (TDTC), met at Dasari Bhavan here on Friday and announced staging of protests on April 6 at the industrial and municipal centres in the State against the alleged assault on workers by the management of a factory at Mogalthur in West Godavari.

The meeting demanded the immediate arrest of the management personnel who were behind the dastardly act.

The meeting expressed its solidarity with the strike observed by both transport owners and workers in more than half a dozen States against the new transport policies of the Union Government.

The meeting expressed its anguish over the court verdict announcing life imprisonment to 13 workers and imprisonment to five in the Manesar-based Maruti Suzuki plant case.

“In 2012, a union was formed to help workers get the minimum wages. This move did not go down well with the management. During that time, a skirmish paved the way for a killing of a Human Resource official leading to a spate of illegal arrests,” said G. Obulaiah, secretary AITUC.

He alleged that the HR manager was killed by hired goons of the management, and false cases were foisted on 148 workers and they were kept in jail for 56 months. “The management also sacked 546 permanent employees and removed 2,000 contract workers,” he added. Members of AITUC, INTUC, CITU, HMS, IFTU, TUCC, AIUTC took part in the meeting.
